“What if I can’t do it?” - The doubts of those who haven’t taken the first step yet
Almost nobody tells us they simply don't feel like it. They say something else.
They say they want to lose a few pounds first. That they're not in shape yet. That
it's too intense. That they'll think about it and get back to us. Sometimes months
go by like this, and then they walk in and the first sentence is always the same: "I
should have come sooner."
These are the doubts we hear most often at the door. Along with the answers we
give to those who ask.
"I'm not fit enough to start."
It's the most common doubt of all, and the one that has it most backwards. Being
fit is the result of training, not the requirement for starting.
Everyone who walks into CrossConnect today comes from somewhere different:
people who have never set foot in a gym, people who spent years on machines
and got tired of it, people who played football at twenty and stopped at thirty.
Nobody starts prepared. You start where you are.
"I'll be the worst in the room and everyone will notice."
Nobody notices. Everyone in class is counting their own reps and thinking about
how many they have left.
And part of the work happens before you even arrive. Every class is written out in
advance, session by session: the coach knows who will be in the room and
decides, before it starts, what to ask of each person. The goal is for the workout to
have the same effect on everyone — on whoever started on Monday and
whoever has been coming since 2025 — and that means asking something
different of each person. By the time you walk through the door, today's workout
is already planned for you.
"I don't know how to do any of those exercises."
You don't need to. You have a team waiting for you for exactly that reason: to
teach you how.In every class, without exception, there is a part dedicated solely to learning the
day's movement: the coach explains, demonstrates and corrects each person
individually, with an empty bar or with bodyweight. This happens every day, even
for people who have been training here for years — nobody reaches a point
where there is nothing left to improve.
"I'm afraid of getting hurt."
It's the most legitimate doubt of all, and the one we take most seriously.
It starts right at the door, before you even put your shoes on: have you trained
before, do you have any injury, any surgery, any pain that always flares up. That
two-minute conversation is what allows the coach to adjust your workout before it
even begins.
After that, it's always the same order, with no exceptions: technique before load.
Nobody increases the weight just because the person next to them did. And if
something starts to hurt, we have a physiotherapist and a nutritionist on site, so
you don't have to deal with it on your own.
We are four coaches, and there is never a class without one of us in the room
watching over you. It's the reason we open our doors every morning.
"What if I can't finish the workout?"
You will. We adjust the workout to what you can do today, not the other way
around.
It's called scaling, and it's the most normal thing that happens here. If the workout
calls for push-ups and you can't do them yet, you do them on your knees. If it calls
for sixty kilos and that isn't your weight yet, you use the empty bar. If it calls for a
four-hundred-metre run and you can't run, you do it on the rower. The stimulus
stays the same, the time stays the same, and you finish with the class.
"I'm too old for this."
At any given Tuesday 7:30pm class, there are people in their twenties and people
in their fifties doing the same workout, each in the version the coach prepared for
them.
Whole families train here, at different times. That's not by chance — it's what we
have aimed for since we opened. The doubt nobody says out loud
It isn't any of these. It's "what if I start and quit again?"
That one is honest, and the answer has to be too: the hard part is never the first
workout. It's coming back on Wednesday. That's why we don't let you start
without a day and time booked, why we check in if you miss a week, why we have
an entire team dedicated solely to you.
How to get started
Through the Starter Plan: three small-group sessions, scheduled with you, plus
free access to all classes until the end of the month. At the end of the month, you
decide whether to stay.
Bring workout clothes. Arrive ten minutes early. We'll take care of the rest.
We are located in Vilela, Paredes, just a few minutes from Lordelo, Rebordosa
and Paços de Ferreira. Classes start at 6:00am and the last one is at 7:30pm.
What to do now
Choose a class this week and send us the day and time you picked on WhatsApp.
Not "some time next week" or "when I have time." One day and one time.
The workout passes. The connection stays.
